For those of you who have been around for a long time, some of you might remember Dr. Pizza (aka Peter Bright), the former r/IncelTears member who was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for attempting to have sex with two young children aged 7 and 9.
Prior to his arrest, Dr. Pizza was an avid critic of incel behaviour on his Twitter (now X) and Reddit accounts. Though his commentary on Reddit has long since been deleted by r/IncelTears members covering their tracks, his faggotry remains live on X.
This is particularly ironic when you consider the fact that he's probably having lots of sex in prison at the moment—not the consensual type.
Dr Pizza's Legal Saga
Dr. Pizza, who was a journalist working for Ars Technica, was arrested in May 2019 after being caught in an FBI sting operation in which an agent pretended to be a mother offering her two young children for sex. Prior to his arrest, Dr. Pizza exchanged selfies, STD test results, and extremely disturbing texts with the agent, some of which you can see here:
In his defense, Dr. Pizza claimed that he had no intention to actually rape a child but instead sought to engage in "age play," and that he had intended to report the "mother" to law enforcement once he realized that the "mother" was offering actual children. In other words, his defense was that he was trying to entrap the FBI agents that were entrapping him. I invite you to think about this for a second.
The jury didn't buy it and returned a guilty verdict on one count of attempted enticement of a minor in March 2020. This offense carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years, and a potential maximum of life in prison. In November 2020, Dr. Pizza was sentenced to 12 years by U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel.
Dr Pizza Appeals to the Second Circuit
Upset about the prospect of getting his ass kicked for the next 12 years, the soy-guzzling r/IncelTears member appealed his conviction and sentence to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which heard his appeal in December 2021. Dr. Pizza had argued that his conviction should be reversed on two grounds. First, the trial court did not take sufficient steps to screen out jurors which may have been biased against Dr. Pizza's sexual habits during jury selection. (He was a sexual deviant who practiced "polyamory" in addition to "age regression"). Second, the judge admitted into evidence a smattering of Dr. Pizza's tweets in which he "joked" about "jailbaits"; Dr. Pizza argued that this was unfairly prejudicial to his defence.
Posting about your pedophilia publicly was probably not a good idea.
The Second Circuit didn't buy it and affirmed his conviction and sentence in January 2022. Dr. Pizza applied for an en banc rehearing, which was denied.

The Collateral Attack

Now running out of options, Dr. Pizza filed a collateral attack challenging his conviction and sentence. This time, he raised two new arguments. First, Dr. Pizza claimed that he did not receive effective assistance of counsel because his trial attorney failed to raise an entrapment defence or to pursue certain objections at trial, and that his post-trial Rule 29 motion for acquittal was only "perfunctory". Second, Dr. Pizza argued that the panic at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic had impaired the jury's ability to deliberate fairly, resulting in an unfair trial that deprived him of the due process guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment.
Recently, in December 2024, Judge Castel denied Dr. Pizza's §2255 motion. The court held that Dr. Pizza could not demonstrate ineffective assistance of counsel. The evidence supporting an entrapment claim was weak, and pursuing such a defense could have backfired by highlighting Dr. Pizza's pedophilic predisposition. Additionally, any objections that Dr. Pizza argued should have been raised would either have been overruled or would have had no effect on the jury's verdict; and Dr. Pizza had failed to demonstrate that a more exhaustive Rule 29 motion would have changed the outcome, because the evidence was sufficient to support the conviction.
As to Dr. Pizza's second argument, Judge Castel held that Dr. Pizza was procedurally barred from arguing that the COVID-19 pandemic had deprived him of a fair trial because he had failed to bring it on direct appeal. Even if this argument did was not barred, Dr. Pizza failed to provide concrete evidence that the jury was distracted or rushed in any way.
